Samuel R. Gates 76 of Saxton, passed away Monday, February 27th at his home following a courageous battle with a lengthy illness of MSA. Born on September 16, 1940 in Huntingdon, a son of the late Gilbert and Florence (Steele) Gates.
He was married to the late AnnaMae Snyder on Dec. 5, 1960 in Winchester, Va., she preceded him in death on January 8, 2008. Surviving are his children, Todd Gates wife Wendy of Saxton, Trudy Eichelberger husband Gary of Langondale, a Sister Kristina Hinish of Saxton, Grandchildren Britani Garber, Rachel Garber companion Michael Altobelli, Morgan Gates, Joshua Eichelberger wife Jacquelynn, Justin Eichelberger, Great Grandchildren Aubrey Altobelli, and Jaelynn Eichelberger. He was a graduate of the Saxton-Liberty High School and worked as a delivery driver for Pepsi Cola from 1961 till 1990 and then also worked as a delivery driver for R&R Vending from 1990 until his retirement in 1996.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending their sporting events, fishing, watching and attending NASCAR and Sprint Car racing.
Friends will be received on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. Broad Top City, PA. from 6-8 PM
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. at 11 AM with Pastor Zachary Kerlin officiating.
Interment will take place at the Grandview Cemetery, Saxton, PA.
