George B. Wilson Jr., 96, of Huntingdon, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Oaks at Westminster Woods.
Born in Turtle Creek, PA on January 8, 1923, he was a son of the late Jessie (Kline) and George B. Wilson Sr.
On March 14, 1947, he was united in marriage to Margaret Catherine (Brooks) Wilson at the St. James Lutheran Church in Huntingdon by Reverend Edwin Mangus which produced an almost 72 year marriage. Mrs. Wilson survives at Westminster Woods.
He was a 1940 graduate of Huntingdon High School and served in the United States Army Air Corp. from February 1943 to February 1946 in the Fifth Air Force in the South Pacific and Japan.
His working career started at the former Grange Trust Company in February 1947 and it ended with his retirement from Penn Central National Bank in January 1988 as Assistant Vice President. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1754, and the former Huntingdon Fire Department now knows as the Huntingdon Regional Fire and Rescue in which he served as fire chief from 1968 to 1970 and was also the treasurer for 40 years as well as being a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huntingdon where he was a former Deacon.
His enjoyments in life included reading, listening to big band music, sitting in the sun and hot summer days. He embraced computers and surfing the internet up until a few days prior to his passing. His new great grandson, Hayden was the apple of this eye. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved his family deeply and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Surviving along with his wife are sons, Dennis, husband of Carol Wilson of Glen Mills, PA, Larry Wilson of Huntingdon, Terry, husband of Denise Wilson of Huntingdon, Jeffrey, husband of Jeanette Wilson of James Creek, a daughter, Cynthia, wife of Ralph Wood of Alexandria, grandsons, Ryan, husband of Cori and Eric Wilson and companion, Amanda all of Huntingdon, as well as great grandsons, Christian, Conner, Samuel, and Hayden.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Wilson Lord and a granddaughter, Amanda C. Burnett on August 23, 2008.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
