Charles L. Gracey, 90, of Round Knob, died on September 7, 2021 at UPMC Altoona Hospital with his loving family at his bedside following declining health for the past few months.
Born on June 22, 1931, in Shore Valley located in Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Jesse O. and Alice (Laidig) Gracey.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Diehl) Gracey, in which they celebrated 57 years of marriage on February 21. Mrs. Gracey survives at their home in Round Knob.
They were blessed with three children, Stacy Snyder, wife of Mike of Breezewood, Barbara Yablonski, wife of Joe of Round Knob, and Steven, husband of Kathy of Bedford. Also surviving is a sister, Ruth Everhart, wife of Gary of Scottdale, along with five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-Law, Georgia McCabe Gracey, six brothers, William, Richard, Fred, Dean, and two infant brothers, and sisters, Miriam, Thelma, and Esther.
He was a 1949 graduate of Robertsdale High School and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Church of God in Round Knob, a member of the American Legion 556, served as a board member of the Coal Miners Museum for many years, and was instrumental in the restoration of the Coke Ovens in Riddlesburg. He loved the outdoors, working in the woods with his power saw, splitting firewood, gardening, bluegrass, auctions, and visiting his friends at Figard’s Garage.
He worked hard his entire life beginning as a young lad and held too numerous of jobs to mention. He was a Broad Top Township Supervisor for 14 years retiring in 1990, but continued to work part-time for several years.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public services at this time due to concerns regarding Covid-19. A private family graveside service will be held at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Musser officiating. A public memorial service will be held at a later date determined by the family based on the Covid -19 pandemic.
In lieu of flowers, the family request the memorial contributions be sent to the Broad Top Coal Miners Museum, Robertsdale, PA. 16674 or to the Round Knob Church of God, Six Mile Run, Pa. 16679.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, 5010 Railroad Ave., Broad Top City, PA. 16621. Online condolences can be made at

Sending sympathy and love to Mary Jane and the Gracey clan. Charley has a special place in my heart and in my family tree. We’re 3rd cousins. I know he has gone to meet the Lord and all of the saints that went before us. He will be missed, but he will live on in our cherished memories. R.I.P. Charley.

Thoughts and Prayers Mary Jane and the whole family. I will always remember the visits when Charlie would stop and spend time with dad especially during his illness. Dad called him his best buddy and oh the stories they would share. I’m sure they are together now in the presence of our heavenly father.
