Obituary

Barry D. Weaver

Saxton, Pennsylvania

Barry D. Weaver, 76, Saxton, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025 at his home.  Born July 4, 1949 in Roaring Spring, he was the son of the late Donald E. Weaver and Pearl P. (Long) Weaver.  He is survived by Anna (Miller) Weaver, his loving wife and devoted best friend of 46 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Brian E. Weaver of Saxton, in 2022.  Barry is survived by special nephews, Eric Pawuk, Frank Pawuk and Jason Weaver, all of Saxton.

At a young age, and through his high school years, Barry learned the value and positive ethic of work by working alongside his father in the family business, Weaver Sanitation.  Later owning and successfully operating Weaver Sanitation until to his employment with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.  Barry gained resolve and stamina and the important quality of perseverance following a life-altering automobile accident in 1966, that required many months of recovery and rehabilitation.

Barry was a life member of the Saxton Volunteer Fire Company, recognized for his dedicated service when honored as Fireman of the Year in 1986. He faithfully served the fire company’s ambulance division for many years as a driver.  He was also actively involved in the governance of his community, serving as a member of Saxton Borough Council for 12 years.  He held membership with the former Tussey Mountain Jaycees and belonged to Saxton IOOF Lodge until its dissolution. Barry grew-up in the Saxton First Church of God and at one time taught Sunday School.

Barry was a graduate of Tussey Mountain High School, Class of 1967 and attended Penn State Mont Alto.  He worked several years for H. J. Williams in road construction, owned and operated Weaver Sanitation, retiring from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as assistant manager for Bedford County after 21 years of service.

In retirement Barry and his beloved Anna cherished their many extended trips traveling across the country, especially enjoying the beauty and grandeur of the American west.  Equally enjoying, with fond memories, the fellowship found at R.V. campsites along the way.  A favorite annual travel destination was the NASCAR race in Michigan and the week-long festivities, resulting in many lasting friendships.  He remained connected to high school classmates always enjoying reunions of the TMHS “Class of 1967”.  Barry had a special interest local history, including ancestry and the heritage of his branch of the Weaver family, and closely connected families, preserving their contribution to military service, farming, railroading, retail trade and auctioneering.

Barry is remembered as a good man, loyal to family and friends, respectful to his parents and others, dedicated to his work and community service and forever deeply devoted to Anna.
