Betty Shanefelter Jones, 100 years old, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at Homewood at Martinsburg.
Born July 5, 1922, in Broad Top City, she was the daughter of Edward Carl Shanefelter and Wilda Mae (Dickson) Shanefelter.
Betty was the youngest of six children and the last remaining member of the immediate family.
Mrs. Kones is survived by son Jack Jones and wife Connie, Broad Top City; Gerry Lynne Wityk, Huntingdon; Edward Jones, Broad Top City; and Andrew Jesse Jones and wife Joan of Harlan, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Michael Jack Wityk; Jackie Lynn Ross; and Tripper Lee Jones and three great-grandchildren, Connor Isaiah Jones, Tyler Lee Jones and Elliott Jones Ross also survive.
Husband Jack Jones, infant son George William Jones and great-grandson Xavier Thomas Ross predeceased her.
Betty was a proud graduate of Robertsdale High School Class of 1940.
She enjoyed a productive career in the extension department of Penn State University, taking an active role in education and events, especially 4-H programs.
During retirement, Betty traveled extensively to Germany, Spain, Australia and enjoyed winters with husband Jack in Florida, Arizona and Texas.
Betty will be remembered as an active mother and grandmother always present for children and grandchildren's activities and special events.
Friends will be received during a visitation Friday, Jan. 27 at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, Broad Top City at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will follow at noon with the Rev. Ron Wilson officiating.
