Bruce David Crawshaw, 87, of Todd, PA, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
Born in Hazelton, PA on September 7, 1935, the only child of the late Francis "Frank" and Kathryn (Wilthew) Crawshaw.
He graduated from Mahanoy City High School, Schuylkill County, in 1953, and after serving in the US Army, earned a BS degree in 1960 and an MS degree in 1967, both from Shippensburg University; he also spent a year at Penn State as a graduate assistant, and taught business education at Frederick (MD) High School and Tussey Mountain High School.
Mr. Crawshaw married Shirley Hooper on December 28, 1959 at St Theresa Catholic Church in New Cumberland, PA. Except for 3 years in Lemoyne, PA. and Frederick, MD, he and his wife resided in the village of Todd for most of their 63 year marriage.
Mr. Crawshaw became interested in printing at an early age, starting a print shop in the family basement while still in junior high school; when he began teaching at Tussey he was enlisted by Olin Hortn, publisher of the Broad Top Bulletin, to do the company's job printing. He later bought that division of the firm and continued to print until he retired and his oldest son David took over. He was also an avid photographer and enjoyed traveling with the family.
After joining the Catholic Church, he became an active member of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Dudley, becoming a member of church council while serving as both lector and eucharistic minister. He faithfully published the weekly church bulletin for over 45 years.
He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy in 2012 and is survived by his wife Shirley at home.
Also surviving are two sons, David, husband of Melissa (Pembrooke) Crawshaw of Saxton, and Christopher, husband of Lisa (Neville) Crawshaw of Todd. There are 6 grandchildren: Kylee, Elizabeth, Jared, LeeAnn, Tiffany, and Ashley, as well as 14 great grandchildren: Haydan, Kevin, Blake, Makenzie, Layla, Christopher, Darran, Dylan, Ashdan, Timothy, Sophia, Jayden, Lydia, Brooklynn, Carson, and Asher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 22, 2023 at Noon at the Immaculate Conception Church, Dudley PA, with Father Mark Reid officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10 AM until the hour of service.
Interment will take place in the Ave Maria Cemetery, Dudley, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. P.O. Box 214, Broad Top City, PA. 16621 to assist the family with final expenses.
