Claud Barton Obituary

Claud Allen Barton, 79, of Wood, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Kearney, Pa on March 24, 1947 in Kearney, a son of the late Wilbert and Bessie (O'Neal) Barton. Claud spent his early years in Kearney and later the family moved to Wood where he graduated from Tussey Mountain High School in 1965. Claud then served his country by enlisting in the army, serving 4 years during Vietnam. he was honorably discharged in 1969 receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

On April 22, 1972 he was united in marriage to Myrtle (Hess) Barton who survives at their home. Also surviving are daughters, Tina Winter, wife of Jeff of Wells Tannery, Candace Lynn of Robertsdale, a son, John Barton of McConnellsburg, grandchildren, Eric, Kameron and Josh Winter, Morgan (Lynn) Stover, and Trevin Lynn, Bethany (Barton) Kurtz, and Jayson and Brayden Barton, great grandchildren, Zoey and Johnny Curry, Eden Winter, Quinn and Barrett Stover, Chase and Arleigh Kurtz. As well as sister, Judy McClain of Upper Marlboro, MD and his twin sister, Claudia Marcinko, wife of Mike of Middletown, DE.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Weaver and husband Bill, and a brother-in-law, Greg McClain.

During his life Claud worked at Fiberglass, Road Construction, Somerset Coal Mines, and Letterkenny Army Depot until ultimately settling into his career with the Department of Corrections at SCI Huntingdon, retiring after 24 years. There was nothing he could not fix or make with his own hands. The family has many fond memories of handmade wooden gifts, as well as his handmade Christmas trees, ornaments, wreaths, and many other decorations. He was always making something. Clauds big project was designing and building the home he currently had resided in from the ground up.

Claud was an avid hunter and reader. He loved spending his days with a good book, you could always find him reading. Claud along with his wife were known for their large gardens. Family and friends, especially his grandchildren would always put a smile on his face. Claud was loved and will be missed.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 2 PM with Pastor Suzanne Detterline officiating at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc., Broad Top City. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. 

Interment will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Broad Top City, PA. where full military honors will be provided by the Broad Top Area Honor Guard.
