Earl Thomas Obituary
Earl F. Thomas, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend; and active and giving community volunteer, passed away on February 21, 2021, at Paoli Hospital, from COVID-19 complications.
He was born on May 15, 1936, in Middletown, a son of the late William D. Thomas and Hannah C. (Bollman) Thomas. He married Treva Rouser on November 4, 1956. They lived together outside of Norristown, PA, returning to the Saxton area frequently to spend time with family.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Merle, William, and Robert Thomas; and sisters Dorothy (Thomas) Figard, Mildred (Thomas) Swope and Florine “Toot” (Thomas) Magee.
He is survived by his loving wife, Treva; son Audie F. Thomas, wife Teresa; son Donald R. Thomas, wife Denise; daughter Jodi R. Ruser, husband Martin; and daughter Kimberly K. Herman, husband James; brother Paul Thomas; sisters Naomi, “Tyke” Hennessy, Marlene Wise, Shirley DiGento, Fayetta Bollinger, Joanne Garst, and Cathy Maslanik; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Earl graduated from Saxton Liberty High School in 1954, going on to own and operate Thomas Heating Oil for over 35 years. Customers will remember his reliability and compassion during difficult winters.
Earl greatly valued community service, volunteering with the Lower Providence Volunteer Fire Company and Audubon-Oaks Lions Club as a young man. He was a Little League umpire for baseball and softball. He played in the Broad Top Old Timers Baseball league and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2017. Of his many volunteering roles, Earl was particularly proud of his membership in Tall Cedars of Lebanon and Masonic Lodge 620, serving as the Grand Tall Cedar for 1988. Earl also enjoyed playing and watching golf, football, and baseball; playing dominoes with friends; and hosting cookouts for family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Oasis of Love Church in the Valley in Saxton on Saturday, February 27, at 2 PM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Those in attendance will be asked to follow the guidelines set forth by the CDC, State of Pennsylvania, and the Church regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shriners Hospital of Philadelphia.
