Harry Lewellyn Watkins
August 14, 1977 – May 23, 2026
Harry Lewellyn Watkins, 48, of Broad Top, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Penn Highlands Hospital, Huntingdon.
Born on August 14, 1977, in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania, to Lewellyn and Violet Watkins. Harry grew up in Groundhog Valley and graduated from Tussey Mountain High School in 1995. He earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Allegany College of Maryland in May 1997. On August 19, 2000, he was united in marriage to Andrea (Reed) Watkins, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. He and Andrea brought three children into the world: Alexandria Nicole in 1997, Emma Mae in 2001, and Matthew Lewellyn in 2003. Being an amazing husband and father was Harry’s greatest pride.
Harry’s children were his pride and joy. Although he spent years working away from home, he did it all for them. He showed his love and compassion through time spent together — whether watching movies, going out to eat, playing cards or video games, or simply calling to ask how their week was. Harry traveled thousands of miles to attend sporting events for Alex, Emma, and Matthew, often returning to work immediately afterward. He cherished every opportunity to watch them compete and participate in the activities they loved. He also loved staying up to date with their lives at school and work, often checking in with Matthew about upcoming tests and exams, Emma with lesson plans and her students, and Alex about cases in the ER and how the hospital was doing. He recently celebrated his son, Matthew's, graduation from Mount Aloysius College. Harry also recently celebrated the birth of his beloved grandchild, Charlie, with his daughter, Alexandria. He had been looking forward to celebrating his daughter Emma’s marriage to Zachary Taylor next July. Above all, Harry loved his children with all he had, and he would have done anything for them.
Harry was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 13 in Philadelphia for 25 years. For the past 12 years, he has served as a Project Manager at the Brunner Island Power Plant in York Haven, Pennsylvania, for Enerfab. Along the way, he built deep bonds with his longtime crew at Brunner Island, friendships he treasured. Harry worked as hard as he loved, pouring everything he had into making sure those around him were taken care of.
Harry never met a stranger and could make friends wherever he went. During his years on the road and at Brunner Island, he regularly stayed at the Hampton Inn in York, where he forged lifelong friendships with both hotel employees and fellow guests. Every other Wednesday, he could be found in the hotel lobby hosting game night with his dear friends Victoria Torres, Austin, Carl, Zach, Angel, and Mary Ellen — a tradition that meant the world to him and to them. Harry would maneuver through that Hampton Inn as if it were his home, often getting special breakfast requests from the kitchen staff and making connections with the hardworking staff who kept his room clean.
Harry had a deep love of travel and believed wholeheartedly in opening his children’s eyes to the world. He wanted to give his family experiences and cherish the time they spent together. His favorite vacations were cruises and trips to Disney World with his family and loved ones. Though he grew up in tiny Groundhog Valley, Harry’s adventures took him across the globe — he toured the Colosseum in Rome, visited castles in Scotland, snorkeled in Aruba, and explored countless destinations beyond. Snorkeling was his favorite pastime, always searching for businesses on each beach he visited. Traveling helped him open his home and his heart as a host father to three exchange students who became part of his family: Pierre Caradec of France, Peter Schwipps of Germany, and Havard Straumsheim of Norway.
Harry served his community with dedication as a member of the Tussey Mountain School Board for two full terms and was serving his third term at the time of his passing. He held the offices of both Vice President and President during his tenure. His favorite part of board service was presenting diplomas to graduating seniors and sending them out into the world as proud Tussey Mountain Alumni. He put students above all else and held himself to the highest standard of service. He understood that a school district took all employees from the custodian to the Superintendent to make each day successful. Harry was always proud to be a Titan. He often returned to a quote from a community member he deeply respected: “If you aren’t going to invest in your children’s education, what is worth investing in?”
Harry was a passionate Philadelphia sports fan who frequently attended Phillies and Eagles games. He often said that stepping off the SEPTA at NRG Station and catching that first glimpse of Citizens Bank Park and the Linc was one of the most beautiful and peaceful sights he knew. He and his son Matthew, along with Molly Molosky, had set out together to visit every Major League Baseball ballpark — a shared quest they had carried to 13 parks.
Harry is survived by his beloved wife, Andrea (Reed) Watkins; his children, Alexandria Watkins, Emma Watkins, and her fiancé, Zach Taylor, Matthew Watkins and his girlfriend, Molly Molosky, and his cherished grandson, Charlie. He is also survived by his mother, Violet Watkins; his father and mother-in-law, Rick and Sue Reed; his brothers-in-law, Ryan Reed and Michael Reed; his siblings, Randy (Angie) Watkins, Michael (Renee) Watkins, and Brenda (Michael) Worthing; his nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Tony) Vinson, Christopher (Alexis) Watkins, Tyler (Taylor) Watkins, Breanna (Christopher) Windbeck, Chelsea (Toby Walizer) Watkins, Nicholas (Ben Wilson) Watkins, Derek (Mason) Worthing, and Logan (Carleigh Ceglar) Reed; and his great-nieces and nephews, Archer Vinson, Ranger, Ridgely, and River Watkins, Meredith, Rhiannon, and Barrett Watkins, Grady and Adlee Worthing, and Charlotte Reed.
Harry was preceded in death by his father, whom he adored, Lewellyn Watkins.
