Hubert Eugene Swope Jr. 1949-2024
Hubert "Hubie" E. Swope Jr. of Broad Top City, PA passed away on January 20, 2024
He was born on March 25, 1949 in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania. Hubie was one of five children of the late Hubert E. Swope Sr. and Mildred L. Thomas Swope.
He is survived by his wife Sarah "Sally" Swope, his son Christopher (Rebecca) Swope and their children, Emma and Laiha, his daughter Michelle (Carl) West and their children, Alexis, Zoë, and Owen, a step-daughter, Connie Weiss, and her children, Meghan, Stephanie, and Samantha, as well as 4 step-great grandchildren. In addition he leaves behind his siblings Allan Swope (Connie Foster), Doreen Spargo, Nadine (Mike) Burns, Cheryl Kerr (Jeff Kline), Bradley Swope and many nieces and nephews.
Hubie was born and raised in Broad Top City, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Tussey Mountain High School and Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. He worked in carpentry and over the road trucking. After retiring he worked with the Broad Top City Water Authority. He was a long time member of the Broad Top Old Timers Association and a Broad Top baseball Hall of Fame member.
Hubie was most often found tinkering around his wood shop or sitting in the kitchen playing solitaire and having a cup of coffee. He loved to tell stories, come up with easy solutions to fix the world, and enjoyed his country living.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to his church, Broad Top Methodist Church, 188 Winterberry Lane, James Creek, PA. 16657. Hubie was an active member of the church and would love to continue to give them support.
A memorial service for Hubie will be held in the spring.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. 5010 Railroad Ave., Broad Top City, PA. 16621. Online condolences can be made at caheathfh.com.
