Jack L. Decker Jr., 79, of Six Mile Run, PA died peacefully on November 20, 2024, at
Homewood at Martinsburg.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Diana L. Decker (Drenning), brother Rick A.
Decker, sons Daniel L. Decker and David J. Decker, daughter-in-law Bridget O. Decker
(O’Brien), and grandchildren Evelyn M. Decker and Calvin R. Decker. He is preceded in death
by his father Jack L. Decker Sr., mother Ruth Annalee Decker (Foor/McKnight), and sister Mary
Jane Brumbaugh (Decker).
He graduated from Tussey Mountain High School (1962) the Pennsylvania State Police
Academy (1968), and attended Penn State University (Berks). He served as a sergeant in
Germany in the United States Army (1962-1965). His career included positions at Letterkenny
Army Depot (1965-1967), Wycoff Steel (1967-1968), and the Pennsylvania State Police
(1968-1993). He was proud to be the first Tussey Mountain graduate to attain the position of
Pennsylvania State Trooper.
Elected as Chairman of the Broad Top Township Supervisors (1994-2005), he was instrumental
in securing funding for the Broad Top Township Sewage Project, a pioneering initiative in rural
Pennsylvania.
He coached Little League and Jr. Babe Ruth Baseball (1988-1994) and served as Tussey
Mountain Football Boosters treasurer (1993-2002). His efforts included starting a concession
stand to benefit the football team and organizing Pee-Wee football teams for the school district.
He worked tirelessly with the Tussey Mountain School Board to relocate the football field and
played a key role in the development of the Dick Hess Sports Complex. He helped organize
several sports reunions and activities, including Bedford and Huntingdon Sports Hall of Fame
inductions for the 1961 Tussey Mountain football and basketball teams. He served on the Board
of Directors at Whitehall Camp and Conference Center in Emlenton, PA.
He will be greatly missed by those who loved him. His legacy of service, dedication, and
community spirit will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him. Per his wishes, a
private service will be held for family.
