James Edgar Horton

James Edgar Horton, 92, of Embassy at Woodland Park, Orbisonia, formerly of Wood, passed away on Sunday May 11, 2025 at Woodland.

Born in Broad Top City on May 13, 1932, a son of the late Edgar and Edithe (Whited) Horton.

On August 8, 1953 at the Robertsdale Church of God he was united in marriage to Darlene E. (Chaney) Horton. Mrs. Horton preceded him in death on July 15, 2020.

He was a graduate of Robertsdale High School and then served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Corporal.

Following his military service he returned to his hometown to become part owner/operator of Horton's Garage in Broad Top City.

He was a member of the Robertsdale Church of God where he was active. He also held memberships at the Watson and Black Post 126 American Legion in Broad Top City, the R.W.&BT. Vol Fire Co., and a life member of the Greater Broad Top Area Sportsman Assn.

Surviving are sons, Michael Horton, husband of Wendy, Jim Horton and Companion Bobby Sue, grandchildren, Travis, Joshua, David, Andrew, Mindy and Emily, as well as a sister, Alice Lou Smeigh and 8 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, John and George Horton, and a sister, Janelle Frank.

Funeral Services will be held at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 11 AM with Pastor Jared Fields officiating.

Friends will be received on Wednesday May 14, 2025 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home and again one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday.

Interment will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Broad Top City, with full military honors provided by the Broad Top Area Honor Guard.
