John L. Long

John L. Long, 75, of Six Mile Run, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.

Born in Six Mile Run on April 6, 1948, a son of the late Mearl T. and Charlotte (Lynn) Long.

He was a 1967 graduate of Tussey Mt. High School and then joined the United States Army in 1968 and was then honorably discharged in 1970 receiving the national defense service medal, expert (M-14 rifle), and first-class gunner (.81 MM Mortar).

Following his military service he became employed by PennDot as an equipment operator and retired after 41 years of service.

He was a member of the Six Mile Run American Legion Post 556 and the former Hopewell VFW. He was an avid hunter, atv rider, enjoyed fishing, boating and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are sons, Jonathan R. Long, husband of Rhonda of Hopewell, Teddy T. Long, husband of Julie of Duncansville, daughter, Joanna R. Long and companion, Josh Bradley of Hopewell, sister, Evelyn, wife of Charles Gonsman of Six Mile Run, and 8 grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Lanny T. Long, Robert Mearl "Bob" Long, and Charles "Chug" Long.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 12 Noon at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. with pastor Alfred Chamberlain officiating. Friends will be received from 10 AM until the service at Noon.
