John Roy Shoemaker, 70, of Three Springs, PA. lost his battle with bone cancer but won the war when he entered the arms of his heavenly Father.
Born on October 30, 1951 in Berkley Springs, WV, a son of the late Floyd and Mae (Myers) Shoemaker.
He was married to the love of his life, Shirley (Nead) Shoemaker who survives at their home.
He is survived by a son Chris, husband of Amy, and their son Noah of Needmore, PA. Also surviving are sisters, Darlene Largent, Hagerstown, MD, Pam Johnson, Mercersburg, PA, and Brenda Jones of Virginia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and several four legged chldren.
He was thankful that he found his home church at Immanuel Bible Church in Three Springs, where he found comfort in the teaching of God’s word and made many friendships.
John was retired from JLG and was a self-employed brick and stone mason prior to JLG and again after his retirement.
One of his greatest enjoyments was bird hunting. He raised and trained several bird dogs, trained bird dogs for other hunters and was a dog handler at many hunting preserves. He truly enjoyed the sport of just being out in God’s creation. He also enjoyed shooting trap and was a member of the Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Trap Team.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Huntingdon or Bedford Humane Society or to the Wounded Warriors Project where he loved to donate his time and handle his bird dogs to aid our wounded heroes for a day of enjoying a bird hunt.
