John K. Thompson

John K. Thompson, 88, of Roaring Spring, peacefully left this world on March 2, 2024 following a few years of declining health at Conemaugh Nason Hospital.

Born in Coalmont on September 04, 1935 a son of the late Fred "Greenie" and Ruth (Neville) Thompson.

Growing up in Coalmont, he graduated from Saxton-Liberty High School in 1953 and then married his high school sweetheart, Dolly (Barton) Thompson from Defiance on November 5, 1955 in Cumberland, MD. which produced over 68 year marriage.

Along with his wife he is survived by a son, Ken Thompson (Ali), of Roaring Spring, granddaughter, Misti Fisher (Kelsey), of Curryville, grandson, Kenny Thompson, of Roaring Spring, step-granddaughter, Keri Snyder (Craig, of NY, NY, great grandchildren, McKaela (Kamden), Kaden (Payton), and Keegan. As well as a sister, Vivian, widow of William Reed of Saxton, and a brother Jerry Thompson (Rhonda) of Broad Top City. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Thompson.

He first worked as a block layer before starting with Penn Dot as a construction inspector for 25 years then transferred to a construction material inspector for the next 10 years, retiring in 1996.

He was an avid baseball fan and participated in the Broad Top Old Timers Labor Day. He also enjoyed going to the grandchildren's sporting events and horse shows. His other enjoyments included the old country and western shows, as well as the Price is Right, reading the newspapers and doing word search books. He was of the Pentacostal Faith. He will be dearly missed and remembered by his family and friends.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 3-5 PM with a funeral service starting immediately following at 5 pm with Pastor Alfred Chamberlain officiating at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. Broad Top City. Interment will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Broad Top City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in John's memory to the donors local humane society.
