Leroy Barto, 87, of Defiance, formerly of Williamson, Pa. passed away at his home on Thursday, February 23, 2023.
Born in Dudley, PA. on September 7, 1935, a son of the late Roy W. and Emma M. (Shultz) Barto.
He attended Robertsdale High School and then served in the United States Army from 1954-1957 achieving the rank of E-3 during the Korean Conflict. Following his service time he was united in marriage to Kathleen M. Duvall in Winchester, VA. on November 15, 1958. Mrs. Barto survives at their home.
He worked as a Journeyman Electronics Technician in the United Auto Workers Union, also as a field engineer for Bendix Field Engineering Co., worked around the world on the NASA Space Program, and then retired from Mack Trucks Inc. in Hagerstown, MD. as a Sr. Test Engineer in the Engineering Department. Following his retirement, he became postmaster in Williamson, PA.
Along with his wife, he is survived by the following children, Frank Barto, husband of Tammy of Greencastle, Gary Barto, husband of Kimberly of Greencastle, Joan (Barto) Daley, wife of Jason of Chambersburg, and Anna (Barto) Horst, wife of Tracey of Upton. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and the following siblings; MaryJane King of New Port Ritchey, FL, Della Robinson of Chesapeake, Va, Richard Barto of Eastern Pa, Judy Kutz of Carlisle, and Christopher Barto of Shell Knob, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, William R. Barto, two grandchildren, Matthew A. Moats, and Brianna Barto, and siblings, Charles Barto, Phyllis Brescoach, William Barto, Barbara Barto, Betty Barto, Dennis Barto, Patricia Shea, Shirley Doyle, James Barto, Nancy Goodman, and Dorothy Goodman.
He was a member of the Riddlesburg Church of the Brethren.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 12 Noon at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. with Pastor Tim McIntyre officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the funeral service.
Interment will take place in the Dudley Methodist Cemetery, Dudley, PA.
