Linda Lou (Black) Horton, 86, of Broad Top City, passed away at her home on April 1, 2026.
Born in Huntingdon, PA on November 14, 1939, a daughter of the late Glenn and Dorothea (Hennessey) Black.
On June 7,1959 in Winchester Va. she was united in marriage to her loving husband, George Horton who preceded her in death in 2022.
She is survived by a son, Ronald D. Horton and companion Tracie, a daughter, Janet E. Hoover and companion Craig, grandsons, Ronald C. Horton husband of Courtney, and Colt M. Hoover, great-grandchildren, Kameron, Karlee, Laney, Kolbie, and Lexie. Also surviving are siblings, Marian Mykut, Daryl G. Black and Roy L. Black. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Colby Horton.
She spent 35 years shaping young minds and hearts as an elementary school teacher in the districts of Southern Huntington, Huntingdon and Tussey Mountain, deeply impacting countless students through her passion for teaching and genuine love of children. Beyond the classroom, Linda Lou's life was defined by her deep devotion to family and community. She was a devoted member of the Broad Top Methodist Church, where she faithfully played piano and was involved in many church activities. Orchestrating cherished gatherings, she hosted Sunday dinners and opened her home for reunions that brought loved ones together across generations. A gifted cook and generous provider, Linda Lou nourished not only her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but also those in need, embodying the spirit of compassion in everything she did. In her leisure time, she embraced life's simple joys -- boating and camping at Lake Raystown, swimming in her pool, embarking on cruises and family vacations, and cheering enthusiastically from the sidelines at her grandchildren's and great grandchildren’s sporting events. In her home, elephant figurines adorned her shelves alongside treasured photographs of family and relatives, each image a reflection of the deep pride she took in her family legacy. Linda Lou was a steadfast presence at class reunions and never missed the Broad Top Memorial Day and Labor Day festivities. Her compassionate heart, nurturing presence, and unwavering devotion to family and community will live on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
