Martha Lou (Moreland) Watkins, 93, of Colonial Courtyard, Bedford, formerly of Broad Top City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Colonial Courtyard.
Born in Saxton, PA. on July 6, 1928, a daughter of the late Albert and Ethel (Dilling) Moreland.
On February 21, 1948, in Hagerstown MD, she was united in Marriage to Thomas “Wayne” Watkins which produced a 53 year marriage. Mr. Watkins preceded her in death on April 3, 2001.
She graduated in 1946 from Saxton-Liberty High School with High Honors where she was a proud drummer in the marching band. Following graduation she pursued a career with the US Postal Service retiring in 1991 as Postmaster of the Broad Top City Post Office after 33 years of service in the postal industry.
A life member of the Broad Top City Church of God, she served as both Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to anyone she met.
During her life she enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, feeding the birds, reading, working jigsaw puzzles, but most importantly, spending time with her family.
Surviving are the following; son, Thomas W. Watkins Jr., husband of Cynthia, son Robert E. Watkins, husband of Karen, daughter, Kimberly J. Balmer, wife of Larry, son Daniel C. Watkins, husband of Julie, and daughter, Janet K. Havern, wife of Christopher. Also surviving are grandchildren, Laurie Watkins, Amy Watkins and companion, Bryan, Jason Watkins, husband of Tricia, Justin Watkins, husband of Christina, Marra Balmer, Damon Watkins, Janae Watkins, Christopher Havern, Sean Havern, as well as 9 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson and a brother-in-law Ernie Gale.
Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Marissa and Jack Wible, a sister Ruth Gale, and a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Vera Moreland.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2022 from 5-7 PM and again on Monday, May 2, 2022 from 10-11 AM at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 11 AM at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. Broad Top City, with Pastor Ron Wilson and Pastor Jeff Musser officiating.
Interment will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Broad Top City, PA following the funeral service.
