Terry Hicklin Obituary

Terry Jean (Swope) Hicklin

HARRISBURG – Terry Jean (Swope) Hicklin, 81, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2025 after a joyful day of celebrating her birthday with her loving family.

Terry was married to a wonderful man, Charles William Hicklin for 32 years before he was called home to be with the Lord. He was her best friend, and the love of her life. They leave behind three beautiful children, Beth; Michele and husband Tim; and Charles and wife Amanda. She felt privileged to be the grandmother of seven precious grandchildren: Samantha and husband Samuel; Tonya and husband Kyle; Timothy Jr.; Andrew and wife Tanya; Kathryn; Mikayla; and Joshua. She was delighted to be able to love and hold her five great-grandsons: Ethan, Trace, Colby, Dawson, and Konnor.

Terry was the first to graduate in her family, Class of 1962, Robertsdale/Tussey Mountain High School. She quickly attained her goal to work for the State Capital as a Clerk Typist in the Banking Department. She left that position to take on the role of homemaker, what she considered to be her most important and fulfilling position in life. She embraced every day as an adventure, always putting family first. In her later years, she worked ten years as a Teller at Fulton Bank, and another eleven years as a Club Demonstrator at Costco, where she loved giving free samples to people.

Terry was raised in the Church of God family, including the Broad Top Church of God, Lawnton Church of God, and Fairmont Community Church. She spent her life happily serving wherever needed. Her motto was “Live to Give and Give to Live”. Her advice to others was to trust God, do good works, and offer hope. While the Bible was her favorite collection of books, she also enjoyed books about how to live a meaningful life. She loved writing personal notes in cards, and often sent letters of encouragement. She created and sent prayer reminder bookmarkers, quoted scripture often, and brought Jesus and God into just about every conversation.

Terry enjoyed simple pleasures, including spending time with loved ones, celebrating holidays and special occasions, giving thoughtful gifts, playing card/board games, and traveling on adventures no matter where they led. Terry had a generous heart and chose to share everything she had. She leaves a legacy of Love, Hope, Joy, and Peace.
