Thomas C. Gates, 79, of Dudley, passed away on October 26, 2024 at his home.
Born on July 27, 1945 in Roaring Spring, a son of the late Raymond and Evelyn (Boose) Gates.
On October 10, 1968 he was united in marriage to Mary K. (Baker) Gates. Mrs. Gates survives at their home.
He was a 1963 graduate of Tussey Mountain High School and the served in the United States Marine Corps. from 1963 to 1983 receiving the rank of Master Sargent serving 2 tours in Vietnam, and the Department of Corrections from 1983-1995.
He was a life member of the VFW in Saxton, American Legion in Broad Top City, was a charter member of the United States Marine Corps Counter Intelligence Association, held various memberships within the United States Marine Corps, and also had his certification for the water treatment plant. He was of the Brethren Faith.
Along with his wife he is survived by sisters, Sandra (Gates) Slater, and Shirley (Gates) Fox, and a brother, James Fredrick Gates.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Paul Thomas Gates, and Mark Thomas Gates, and brothers, William and Raymond Gates.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 2 PM at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. with Pastor Rob Reed officiating.
Friends will be received two hours prior to the service time. Full military honors will be conducted following the service.
The family request the no live flowers be sent to the services, but suggests the memorial contributions be made to one of the following organizations, Broad Top City American Legion, Saxton VFW, Broad Top Area Senior Citizens Center, Hopewell Senior Citizens Center, or the Church of your choice.
