Thomas L. Matthews Jr., 70, of Mill Creek, formerly of Wood and Saxton, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.
Born in Huntingdon on April 27, 1950, a son of the late Thomas L. and Kay J. (Hampson) Matthews.
He was united in marriage to Carolyn L. (Skvarka) Matthews on April 15, 1978 at the Immaculate Conception Church. Mrs. Matthews preceded her in death on January 17, 2015.
He worked as a coalminer and a bus driver and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Dudley where he was a Cantor and was a member of the choir. He was a member of the Knight’s of Columbus 916, (Bishop Garvey Assembly-4th Degree), Knight’s of Columbus Star of the Sea Council 4245, UMWA Local #6410, and was a Life Member of the R.W. & BT. Vol. Fire Co.
Surviving are a daughter, Cathi Kay Beatty, wife of Brett, grandchildren, Alisa, Caitlynn, Connor, Justin, and Robert Beatty, a sister, Alice Matthews, step mother, Lois Matthews, step brothers, Lynn Martz, Todd Martz, Jim Mitchell, George Mitchell, and John Mitchell, and step sisters, Susan Black, and Elva Jean Fisher.
Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Matthews a step mother, Ruth Matthews, and a step brother Mike Mitchell.
A Private Mass by invitation by the family due to restrictions set for by the church regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. The mass will take place on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 10 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church in Dudley, PA.
Interment will take place in the Ave Maria Cemetery, Dudley, PA.
