William C. Dunn

William C. “Bill” Dunn, 79, of Saxton, passed away at Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin, Pa on Monday September 5, 2022 following a brief stay.

Born in Altoona, PA on July 9, 1943, a son of the late, Robert A. and Mary A. (Hess) Dunn.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Jean (Savitts) Dunn, a sister, Donna L. (Dunn) Reed, a step-son, David Winters Sr, a grandson, Dustin Doyon, as well as his parents.

Surviving are step-children, Daniel Winters, Brenda Winters, and Karen Doyon, niece and nephews, Ami L. (Reed) Gelbaugh, William Reed and Jeffrey Reed, as well as many, many friends in the Saxton Area.

He was a graduate of the first class of Tussey Mt. High School in 1961 and then went to work at Eichelberger’s Hardware in Saxton until 1973 when he was hired to operate the water and sewage treatment plant by the Saxton Bureau Municipal Authority where he remained for 49 years, retiring in April of this year.

Bill was a lifetime member of the Saxton Vol. Fire Department having joined in 1958 and served twice as Fire Chief.  He and his wife, Jean were members of the Ambulance and EMT unit for Saxton for many years and were past Ambulance Association Treasurers.   He and Jean were also part of the Huntingdon County Posse.  He was a former member of the Tussey Mt. Jaycees and a past Supervisor for Hopewell Township.

Bill and Jean dedicated their lives to the service of their family and community. For decades there was not a fund raiser, fire company event or call where you did not see one, or both of them respond. 

A memorial service will be held by the family on Sunday October 9th at 1 PM at the Saxton Vol. Fire Co. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Saxton Vol. Fire Company, 504 8th St. Saxton, PA. 16678.
