William E. "Bill" McElwee, 71, of Broad Top City, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 25, 2026 following a courageous battle with ALS.
Born in Huntingdon on October 23, 1954, a son of the late Deveaux and Dolly (Collare) McElwee.
He was a 1973 graduate of Tussey Mt. High School, He was a lifetime small engine repair man, and worked for GM&W Coal Co., the laborers union, various other construction jobs and finally retiring from Penn DOT. He held memberships in the Broad Top American Legion Watson and Black Post 126, the Saxton VFW Captain Phillips Post 4129, and the Saxton Sportsman's Assn.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy Plazek at their home, children, Nikki, wife of Kevin Faircloth of Saxton, Shari, WIFE OF Jason Banco of Six Mile Run, Kati McElwee and Fiancée Brandon Musser of Saxton, and William "Billy" McElwee of Saxton. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ciara, Myiah, Taner, Kai, Kadyn, Kandon, Karter, great grandchildren, Miles, and Kace, siblings, Tom McElwee, husband of Becky, Rick McElwee, and Randy McElwee, husband of Phyllis "Tip", and his first wife Vicki Minnick.
Bill enjoyed riding his four wheeler, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and friends, and working on small engines until he had enough and put the sign on his shed "No More Small Engine Repair".
Friends will be received on Friday, January 30, 2026 from 9-11 AM with a funeral service taking place at 11 AM all at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. 5010 Railroad Ave. Broad Top City, PA.
Interment will be held privately in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery due to the weather.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. P.O. Box 214, Broad Top City, PA. 16621 to assist the family with final expenses.
