R. Joanne (Helsel) Moffat, 81, of Broad Top Mt. Road, Saxton, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 following a lengthy illness.
Born in Wells Tannery on November 16, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Evelyn Aretta (Putt) and Robert Allen Helsel Jr.
She was united in marriage to Charles Franklin Moffat Sr. who survives at home.
She was a former owner of the Midway Hotel for 31 years and a housewife. She was a life member of the VFW Post 4129 Auxiliary, American Legion Post 126 Auxiliary, and the Saxton Sportsman Assn., and was a 1953 graduate of Robert P. Smith High School.
Along with her husband she is survived by the following family, daughter, Robin Ramper, wife of Donald of Wood, Son, Charles F. Moffat husband, of Lavon of Pittsburgh, daughter, Laurie Annie Baker, wife of Charles of Sharpsburg, MD, daughter, Evelyn Aretta Burns, wife of Lawrence of Leavenworth, KS, grandchildren, Magda, Keenya, Jo, Amelia, Michael, Benjamin, Ryne, Charlie, Jacob, great grandchildren, Katherine, Victoria, Sophia, Hunter, great great granddaughter, Aubreigh, sister, Kathleen Casner, brothers, William and Daniel Helsel.
She was preceded in death by an infant girl, Yvonne Moffat, sons, Allison “Alli” Frederick Moffat, Carl Allen Moffat, sisters, Audrey J. Gates, Margaret “Sis” Hockenbrock, Bonnie Mateja, brothers, Robert A. “Buck” Helsel III, Kenneth Helsel.
Friends will be received on Saturday, April 15, from 11 AM  until the time of service at 1 PM at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. in Broad Top City, PA. Interment will take place in the Langdondale Cemetery in Hopewell immediately following services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made in Joanne’s memory to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Captain Phillips VFW Post 4129, 603 Main St. Saxton, Pa. 16678 where she was an active member.
