Linda Kay Rhodes, 71, of Little Valley Road, Saxton, passed away at her home on Friday, November 22, 2019.
Born in Roaring Springs on October 16, 1948, she was a daughter of the late Kessler Alvie and Gladys Irene (Smith) Shaw.
On January 10, 1970 in Bakers Summit, she was united in marriage to David W. Rhodes, who survives at their home. Their upcoming anniversary would have marked 50 years of marriage.
She worked at Cove Shoe until the late 90’s when she became the caregiver for her mother and mother-in-law. She also was a caregiver through Home Nursing and also was the babysitter for her grandchildren.
She held memberships in the Saxton Vol. Fire Co., Marklesburg Vol. Fire Co., and the Woodcock Valley Lions Club. She was on the Bingo committee at the Saxton Vol. Fire Co. and was the Turkey Dinner coordinator for the Marklesburg Vol. Fire Co. She loved playing Bingo, going to yardsales and flea markets, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was of the Brethren faith.
Along with her husband, she is survived by two sons, Bryan L. Rhodes and David W. Rhodes Jr. and wife Lani, a daughter Tammy S. Rhodes and fiancée James Swope Jr., grandchildren, Courtney Brenneman and companion Sean Sweeney, Joshua Rohdes, Lindsay Bell, Conner Rhodes, Tyler Rhodes, Michael Swope and Brittany Swope, great grandchildren, Adalynne, Parker, and Keagan. Also surviving are four sisters, Janet Detterline, widow of Charles, Judy McClelland and husband Jim, Donna Simington and husband Ronald, and Sue Sassaman and husband Dalton and a brother, Robert Shaw and wife Linda.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 11 AM at the Woodcock Valley Bible Church, 16412 Raystown Road, James Creek, PA. 16657 with pastor Buddy Baird officiating.
Friends will be received on Tuesday November 26, 2019 at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc. from 6-8 PM and again on Wednesday at the church from 10 AM until the time of the service.
Interment will take place in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, McConellstown, PA.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to either the Matt Baker Local Cancer Fund % First National Bank, 911 Church St. Saxton, PA. 16621 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN. 30105.
